Three men appear in Court in connection with foiled Dunboyne heist

Three men who face charges in connection with Friday's foiled cash in transit robbery in Dunboyne were remanded  to Clover Hill Court next Friday, when they appeared at Trim Court tonight.

Francis Murphy (37) of Drogheda Road, Duleek, Stefan Saunders (39), Hazelbury Park , Clonee and Damien Noonan (30) of Rusheeney Court, Hartstown, Co Dublin are each accused of possession of a Makarov firearm and eight rounds of ammunition at Dunboyne last Friday with intent to commit a robbery.

They are also accused of possession of a crowbar, a black rucksack and Motorola walkie talkies on the same occasion.

Saunders was remanded in custody with consent to bail of €130,000.
Judge Malone refused bail to Murphy and Noonan.

Inspector Martina Noonan told Judge Grainne Malone there were strong objections to bail.
Det Garda Jonathan O'Leary who gave evidence of arresting Saunders said he had been found with a fully loaded firearm. He said he believed Saunders was a flight risk.

Det Garda Brian McDermott said he believed Murphy was a flight risk because of the seriousness of the charges. He has his own business and is a man of some means.

Det Garda Declan Maloney said Noonan had been caught red handed and he opposed bail because of the strength of evidence against the defendant.

Mr Seamus Clarke BL said Saunders was a married man with three children, two of whom are in primary school. Mr Clarke said Saunders wasn't working and his wife was on a back to work scheme.
They have a €700 a month mortgage.

Mr Clarke said Murphy owned a garage and had a partner and two children.
The garage was set up under a back to work scheme and the business doesn't have huge profit.
Mr Clarke said Noonan was engaged with two children. He's on a back to work scheme as a tow truck driver and his truck has now been seized.

Saunders was granted €130,000 bail on condition he sign on twice a day, observe a curfew between 10pm and 8am, have no contact with employees of G4S, have no contact with co-defendants, be contactable by mobile phone at all times, furnish Garda with the registration number of the car he will be using and not drive or be a passenger in any other vehicle.
