St Pat's can reflect on finishing top of the class
The team of runners representing St Patrick’s Classical School, Navan can this week reflect on their achievement in winning the Geraldine Dolan Memorial Cup when they finished three points ahead of Loreto College, Mullingar with St Peter's College, Dunboyne third.
The course in Ballinacree was in ideal condition for cross country running on Tuesday of last week following the recent dry spell and with 16 schools from four different counties taking part there was great competition in all races.
Doireann Ni Flatharta from St Peter's, Dunboyne led from start to finish to take the Minor Girls race with Amy Doherty (Ratoath) holding off Aoife McGabhann (Loreto, Mullingar) to take second. Loreto Mullingar won the team event.
Over 100 athletes finished the Minor Boys race and Meath schools scored a one, two and three with Conor Leane (St Peter's, Dunboyne) beating the St Pat’s, Navan duo of Marcus Clarke and Owen Moore. St Peter's, Dunboyne had three points to spare over St Pat’s Navan in the team event.
Caoimhe O'Brien (Loreto, Mullingar) was a clear winner of the Junior Girls and led her school to the team title. The Junior Boys race had the closest finish of the day with Jake Cullen (Dunshaughlin) holding of his team mate Sean O'Connor with Shane Smith (St Pat’s Navan) third and leading his school to the team title.
Susan Glennon (St Finian's, Mullingar) won the Intermediate Girls race while the Loreto Mullingar selection, with three athletes in the top five, were easy team winners.
St Pats and St Finian's dominated the Intermediate Boys race with only John Hatton (Boyne College, Trim) in third getting in the mix. Conor McHugh (St Finian's) was the winner with Fergus Crilly (St Pat’s, Navan) in second having the satisfaction of leading his school to the team title.
There were smaller numbers in the senior races but the quality was there. Alana Bates (Loreto, Mullingar) won the ladies race with Loreto Cavan taking the team title.
Liam Murray (St Ciaran's, Kells) produced the performance of the day as he cruised to victory in the senior Boys race. Virginia College took the team title.
