St Colmcille's and Dunderry get ready for IFC showdown
The flags are out and the countdown is on to the start of the IFC final between St Colmcille's and Dunderry at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday, 3.45.
The game promises to be a fascinating tussle however, St Colmcille's look to have the edge.
They are a team that have impressed many observers in recent years without making the big breakthrough.
They have, also, of course Graham Reilly and no doubt Dunderry will have been working on some strategy to close him down.
Even if they do succeed in removing him to the margins of the game Colm Nally's side have players who can step up to the plate such as James Conlon.
He had a brilliant game against Walterstown in the semi-final with his contribution helping to save the Sky Blues from what looked to be certain defeat.
Conlon's last-gasp point in normal time against Walterstown forced extra-time and from then on St Colmcille's took charge.
As far as Nally was concerned it was too close for comfort and he has vowed to work hard on ensuring his team up their game considerably for the final. That could mean bad news for Dunderry.
Kevin Dowd's side are something of surprise packets and they too have potential match-winners in players such as Paddy Kennelly and Stephen Coogan.
Dunderry have shown some impressive, consistent form in their A FL Div 3 campaign and have secured promotion.
Dowd is of the view that a team can get into the groove of winning games and that stance has been borne out by a excellent run in the championship that saw them record impressive wins over the likes of Curraha (2-5 to 0-9) and St Michael's (2-9 to 0-11).
Both teams will bring supporters in big numbers to headquarters on Sunday. It promises to be close but St Colmcille's should prevail.
