Passing of Meath's 1957 All-Ireland winning minor captain

The death has occurred in Navan of Brendan Cahill, who captained Meath to their first All-Ireland Minor title in 1957, playing in the left half-forward position.
The minor success was gained with a final victory over Offaly in Mullingar. That was followed by All-Ireland semi-final win over Mayo before defeating Armagh by 3-9 to 0-4.
Brendan was on the Navan O'Mahonys teams that won five-in-a-row Meath SFC titles from 1957 to '61, and again in 1963, and played with the Meath senior team until 1964, when a knee injury curtailed his career.
As a member of the Navan O'Mahonys executive, he was responsible for spearheading a permanent home for the club, the result of which is the pitch and social centre on Brews Hill today.
Brendan was also a key figure with Navan Fire Service for many years.
Predeceased by his son Enda, he is survived by his wife, Ann (Russell), family, Belinda, Richard, Sara and Cormac and their partners, grandchildren, brothers Jim and Frank, sisters Anna, Marie and Cora, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephew, nieces, relatives and friends.
He is reposing at his residence today, Monday from 4pm until 8pm and on Tuesday from 2pm until 6pm, with removal to Saint Mary's Church for 7pm. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10am, with burial afterwards in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Family flowers only.
