Donaghmore/Ashbourne retain u-21 title
Donaghmore/Ashbourne retained the u-21 FC title with an impressive 1-14 to 2-7 win over Skryne at Dunshaughlin this afternoon.
Dublin u-21 star Michael Deegan was the star of the show as he scored eight points. Dylan Brady's fortunate goal in first-half injury-time was also a key score.
All of the first six scores of the game came from frees as Donaghmore / Ashbourne led 0-4 to 0-2.
Skryne's broke that run with a goal from Paddy Carpenter to edge ahead, but Donaghmore/Ashbourne rallied with Brady's point attempt dropping to the net to ensure a 1-6 to 1-5 interval lead.
Four minutes after the break Skryne went ahead when Jason Fox converted a penalty, but Donaghmore/Ashbourne responded impressively with Thomas McGovern scoring three points to lead the charge.
In the final quarter Skryne needed a third goal, but it never arrived as Jack McCarney excelled in defence for Donaghmore/Ashbourne as they held on to retain the crown.
