Cyclo-cross has become increasingly popular in recent years and consists of many laps of a short (2.5-3.5km or 1.5-2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating an obstruction and re-mount. The sport is particularly popular in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
Navan Road Club official John Nolan points out that CX racing is becoming increasingly popular with the track developed at Blackwater Park proving to be an ideal location for the sport.
