Lobinstown's Claire Dillon to perform on Glór Tíre
Budding country music star Claire Dillon from Lobinstown will feature on tomorrow night's 'Glór Tíre', the popular country music talent show which returned to television screens last week for its thirteenth season.
Filmed as a live gig in the Quays bar in Galway, the episode sees Clare take to the stage and perform ‘Jackson’ as a duet with her Glór Tíre mentor, elite country music star Jim Devine, in the hope of winning the public’s vote and progressing to the next stage of the competition.
Talented Claire, who has been gigging for eight years, is just one of nine contestants to reach the final stages of the competition and in the running for a first prize of €5,000, sponsored by Louis Fitzgerald.
Claire currently lives in Drogheda, but is preparing to move back to Lobinstown in the next couple of months. She is engaged to Dean Gargan and couple are getting married in August. They have a little girl Georgia Mai (2).
Claire is the only contestant from Meath to have made it this far in the competition. She is performing a number of classic country hits throughout the recordings of the show, including the duet with Jim.
Glór Tíre is Ireland’s only talent show to provide a platform for emerging Irish country music artists to perform in front of a national audience of over 180,000.
The series, presented by TG4’s Aoife Ní Thuairsig and Pádraig Ó Neachtain, will comprise of 15 episodes showcasing the hopeful contestants’ talents. Claire will be looking to impress this year’s high profile judging panel which includes RTÉ broadcaster John Creedon, Caitríona Ní Shúilleabháin and Jo Ní Chéide as well as the Irish public.
Weekly episodes will feature the contestants singing both alone and accompanied by their mentor. Mentors this year include household names in the Irish country music scene Mike Denver, Robert Mizzell, Brendan Shine, Louise Morrissey, Keith and Lorraine, Johnny Brady, Barry Kirwan and Gerry Guthrie.
The Tuesday night episodes lead up to the elimination programmes and the much anticipated final when Claire hopes to be among the final three contestants battling it out to be crowned the 2017 Glór Tíre winner. In the elimination programmes, contestants can be saved by the judging panel but in the concert episodes and the final, they ultimately depend on the public’s vote.
