BREAKING: Young mother dies after Castletown road smash
Gardaí in Navan are investigating a road traffic collision involving a truck and a car that has claimed the life of a young mother and left two children in a serious condition in hospital.
The collision occurred at approximately 1pm at Leggagh, Castletown, Navan. The three occupants (2, 6 and 26 years old) of the car were brought to Drogheda and Crumlin Hospitals (one boy and his mother to Drogheda, the other child to Crumlin). There was no one else in the car. The driver of the truck was unharmed.
The female driver later died in the early hours of Friday morning in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
The collision with an articulated truck happened at around 1pm on Thursday. One of the children was taken from the scene by air ambulance to Tallaght Hospital and later transferred to Crumlin Hospital. Local diversions were in place and the road only reopened before midnight last night.
