Skryne mourns the passing of Ray Mooney
The death has occurred of great Skryne GAA club stalwart Ray Mooney. Ray sadly passed away yesterday after a long illness.
He held a number of positions in the Skryne club including treasurer, secretary and in latter times club president.
A teacher in St Patrick's CS, Navan Ray was also manager of the Skryne team that won the Meath SFC titles in 1992 and '93.
He played football at various levels for Skryne and was on the field for the 1965 SFC final involving Skryne and Kilbride when the game was called off. Skryne were eventually awarded the title.
In recent years Ray was heavily involved in looking after the Skryne GAA ground.
'He was chief groundsman for the last 20 years. He never left Skryne even though he lived in Navan. Skryne GFC was his second home,' said Skryne's Dermot Carty.
The funeral arrangements are as follows: Reposing at Fitzsimons’ Funeral Home, Navan, from 4pm this Thursday afternoon, 19th January, with removal same evening to The Church Of The Immaculate Conception, Rathfeigh, arriving at 7pm. Funeral Mass on Friday at 12 noon with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to The Irish Heart Foundation.
