Navan go top of AIL Div 2C
Navan returned to action in the AIL Div 2C yesterday with a trip to nearby Seapoint and they moved into joint-leadership of the table following a resounding 42-10 victory.
The performance had club officials and supporters looking forward to next Saturday's home tie against Cork side Midleton as they made the journey back to Navan from Seapoint's Kilboggett Park in south Dublin.
Navan lead the way in Div 2C along with Rainey Old Boys with both Sligo and Tullamore completing the top four as the second-half of the season resumed with yesterday's action.
All the top four teams won with Rainey defeating Bruff (20-17), Sligo won away against Bangor (22-16) and Tullamore made the long trip to Midleton and won well with a 25-7 victory.
Navan played some excellent rugby on Saturday and were ahead from an early Declan Bannon penalty from about 30 metres before Roy Maloney finished off some superlative team play to touchdown for a try.
Bannon added the conversion and followed that by slotting over two more penalties for a 16-0 margin, but the hosts got on the scoreboard before the break and trailed by 13 points (3-16) at the interval.
It got better for the Meath men when Bryan McKeever went over for a try soon after the resumption and once again Bannon added the extra points.
Leading by 23-3 at that stage, Navan kept a firm grip of the game and added another converted try with 15 minutes remaining before closing out the tally in the run up to the final whistle while Seapoint also managed a converted try.
