Ladies open with a win
Meath found the winning formula in the first round of the Ladies National Football League Div 3 against Down at Ballykinlar on Sunday where they won by 1-16 to 0-11.
After the disappointment of relegation last year the girls and management were determined to put all that behind them and focus on the future.
Wind-assisted Meath were ahead by 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval and opened the scoring in the first minute with a well-taken point from Emma White who added another soon after with Bláthnaid Keogh, Niamh Gallogly, Fiona O’Neill and Niamh O’Sullivan (two) were also on the mark.
Down forged ahead after the resumption with a brace of points before Meath settled with O’Sullivan running the show and adding five points to take her overall tally to seven for the hour.
O’Neill rifled to the net for a crucial goal that set the Royal County up for a well-deserved victory.
