Meath minor footballers win in Rochfortbridge
Meath began their Leinster MFL campaign on a winning note today with a 1-11 to 0-8 victory over hosts Westmeath at Rochfortbridge.
However, Meath started slowly and didn't score until late in the opening half as Westmeath surged into a 0-6 to 0-0 lead.
Joey Donnelly scored a crucial goal for Meath on the stroke of half-time and that reduced the deficit to two points (1-2 to 0-7) at the interval.
Westmeath managed only one point for thes econd-half and Meath were on terms (1-5 to 0-8) at the three-quarter stage before pulling away in the
closing stages.
Scorers: Meath - Joe Donnelly (Ratoath) 1-3; Cathal Finnegan (Seneschalstown) 0-3; Shane Walsh (Na Fianna) 0-2; Sean Martin (Na Fianna), Cian Swaine (Clann na nGael) and Robbie Clarke (Skryne) 0-1 each.
