Big weekend for Chris Blaney - late change of opponent
It will be boxing for Christopher Blaney at the National Stadium on Saturday night, but if ever decides to hang up the gloves he will be welcomed back to his local GAA club Wolfe Tones with lots of enthusiasm as he is also a fine footballer.
No doubt, there will be lots of supporters from around Navan, Kilberry and Gibbstown keeping an eye on his progress in the ring at the iconic venue in Dublin on Saturday night as he completes the first chapter of his professional boxing career.
Blaney will feature on the undercard of the Red Corner Promotions ‘Unfinished Business’ show at the National Stadium in what will be his final four-rounder only eight months after his professional debut.
The bout will be Blaney’s fifth professional fight, he is now known as ‘the Ginger Ninja’ and he told Irish-Boxing.com in an interview
“I feel stronger, fitter, and more clever, and can’t wait to showcase it on Saturday night. I have all my tickets sold out, and it looks like it will be a sell out so I’m really looking forward to putting on a show again.”
Providing the opposition for the Meath man will be Nigerian Oladimeji Akinde.
“I think this lad will come and give it a go. He looks strong and fit and I’m really up for it.
'He has a good record only losing three times and has never been stopped so it would be great to get the KO if it comes. If not, I’m happy to do the rounds,' he added in his interview with Irish-Boxing.com.
Blaney fought four times between June and November last year.
He was a nominee for the Meath Young Sportsperson of the Year in 2009.
LATE CHANGE
From Chris Blaney's Facebook page approx 11pm tonight
My opponent scheduled for Saturday has failed his brain scan. Not to worry tho as a new opponent has been named, a lad from hungary with not a bad record 27 wins with 18 ko's and 11 loses, he boxed last week and won by ko so looking forward to the test!
