Carney send Cosmos through
Navan Cosmos booked their place in the last eight of the Leinster Junior Cup with a hard earned 1-0 extra-time victory over top Dublin side Donnycarney at the MDL tonight.
Colm Carney bagged the winning goal five minutes into extra-time and the goal was exactly what Cosmos deserved as they were the better side throughout and created all the decent chances.
Playing with the wind at their backs in the opening period they went close in the 24th minute with Conor Walsh forcing the visiting goalkeeper into a fine save before Paul Delaney skimmed the crossbar with his follow up.
Seven minutes later Carney struck the crossbar with a drive from the edge of the box, while 12 minutes before the break both Carney and Robbie Dillon had efforts cleared off the line as Donnycarney scrambled clear.
For all their close calls Cosmos couldn't find a breakthrough in the 90 minutes, but five minutes into extra-time Carney pounced on a breaking ball and fired through a forest of legs to seal the win and book the Navan side's passage to the quarter-finals.
