Regionalising some NEFL divisions is a good idea?
The North East Football League may be in a position to regionalise the lower divisions of the main and reserve leagues following a discussion last night at the club management meeting in Navan where PRO Tommy Melia also launched the new website.
Last year at the AGM a proposal to change the format received a majority vote (34 for, 19 against) but it fell short of the two-thirds required to make the change.
The proposal was
With the exception of the top two Sunday divisions (Premier & Div 1), and top Saturday Division (Premier Reserve) all other Divisions be regionalised into groups within a league division with a guarantee of automatic promotion for all teams that finish at the top of each group, and a minimum guarantee of a promotional play off for all teams finishing second in a
group
There was a good discussion about the matter again last night and it's likely that, if the proposal is put forward again by a club for the next AGM, that there will be enough support to get it through.
The Meath Chronicle suggests that the Div2, Div 3, Div 4 listed below from the current season could be regionalised as indicated to minimise travelling time and distance and enhance local rivalry.
