Dunboyne native Ireland's fastest man ever?
Karl O'Dwyer from Dunboyne chalked up a piece of skiing history when he took part in the FIS Speed Ski World Cup yesterday.
O'Dwyer was 10th in his competition but more noteworthy he achieved a speed of 143km/h.
This, it is understood, makes him the fastest 'non-motorised Irishman ever recorded,' according to his father Billy O'Dwyer the proprietor of O'Dwyer's public house in Dunboyne.
Karl O'Dwyer (29) started skiiing as a youngster first in France but for the last three years he has lived and work in British Colombia, Canada where can be found some of the best skiing conditions in the world.
O'Dwyer entered the FIS Speed World Cup in the Sun Peaks Resort in British Colombia and it is beleived he is the first Irishman to do so.
Brought up in Dunboyne Karl O'Dwyer attended the local St Peter's College before going on to study for a Venture Capital and Finance degree at Maynooth College.
He is currently managing a restaurant business in Canada with skiing, especially at this time of the year, his main hobby.
'Karl goes on a straight run right down the mountain and aim is to go as fast as you can,' explained Billy.
'We're proud of what he has achieved, he has been skiiing since he was 10,' he added.
