Bright future ahead for young Trim genius who has brain-busting IQ of 162
Eleven-year-old Trim girl Rosie McInerney looks certain to have a very bright future ahead of her after achieving an incredible result in the Mensa entrance test. While Einstein was never tested, his IQ is estimated to have been 160, putting Rosie ahead of him with her mind-blowing score of 162. In fact, her result puts her in the top 0.003 per cent of people tested.
Rosie, a daughter of Mike McInerney and Tina Murray is a fifth class pupil in St Mary's Convent School, Trim, and is also part of Dublin City University's Centre for Talented Youths.
Her proud father Mike is also a member of Mensa but said his daughter's result “blew his out of the water”. While Mike said Rosie was “thrilled” with her result, he said she was even more excited about beating his score! To become a member of Mensa, you must score over 145 in the test.
“To put it in context, if the population of Ireland did the test, the number of people to score the same as Rosie, would fit on a double decker bus. She is in the top 0.003 per cent of people who have sat the test,” explained Mike.
He said that while Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking weren't tested, it is thought their IQ was around 160.
“Rosie and her three sisters have always done well in the Drumcondra tests. Rosie is very interested in academics and she goes to the DCU centre for talented youths for a couple of weeks in the summer and she also does distance learning in chemistry.
“She enjoys it and is very academically minded. I'm a member of Mensa and she was always doing tests online and she wanted to do the test. She did one of the tests on the Mensa site and she came out with a high score. Then she did a home test which we sent off and based on that she was invited to do a test on 11th February.
“She actually sat the test on her 11th birthday in Dublin. There were 20 odd people there and she was the only child but she took it all in her stride and did the different tests in the two hours.
“Within a couple of weeks we got the result. It was 162 which blew mine out of the water,” said Mike.
Rosie is now a member of Mensa and will have access to online resources and the social networks as she grows older. There are about 1,000 people in Mensa Ireland.
