Attempt to lure girls into car reported
Duleek councillor Sharon Keogan has issued a warning to young girls, teenagers and parents after a man tried to lure two 15-year-old girls into his car in the village yesterday afternoon.
One of the teenage girls reported the incident to Cllr Keogan who took to facebook to highlight the shocking incident and to warn others to be careful. She also told the teenager to report the incident to Gardai.
'The two girls were sitting on the bench beside Spar when a man tried to lure them into his car with the offer of alcohol,' Cllr Keogan told the Meath Chronicle.
'The girls ignored him, but then he drove past a few times and requested them to get into the car a number of times. When one of them took out her phone, he left.
'We have a very good ID of the car, and the details have been passed on to Gardai.
'This man will be caught and no stone will be left unturned until he is. Fair play to the young girl who told me. It was an awful thing to happen'.
According to Cllr Keogan, the man was described as tanned, spoke with a foreign accent and was wearing a red and yellow baseball hat. He was driving a silver car.
Warning others on her facebook page, Cllr Keogan wrote: 'Girls, please be careful. We parents often tell you as young children do not get in with strangers. This advice we give for many good reasons. Far too many young girls go missing, get raped or attacked because of pure innocence or stupidity. Thankfully these 15 year olds had good sense.'
She warned young people to be careful and report any incidents to Gardai immediately.
'Big thanks to the young girl for having the courage to reach out and ask me to share this with you to warn other young girls,' she wrote in the post.
