Forde confirms worst fears

Navan O'Mahonys and Meath footballer Alan Forde confirmed on his Facebook account yesterday evening that he is likely to face a long spell on the sidelines after suffering an apparent cruciate knee ligament injury in the 10th minute of Meath's NFL Div 2 victory over Fermanagh.

Some supporters on the terrace side of Pairc Tailteann confirmed they heard a loud 'popping' sound when Forde went down and the O'Mahonys man confirmed on Facebook that he knew immediately something was wrong.

Forde thanked the Meath supporters for all warm reception he received as he walked around to the dressing room and he was also humbled by the hundreds of messages of support he has received in the hours after the injury.

Meath manager Andy McEntee suggested after the game on Sunday that Forde may have suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and is likely to be out for a considerable period of time.

'Unfortunately it looks like Alan Forde has a serious injury, possibiliy a cruciate, that is a real downer for everyone because he was having a good game and a good year. He has worked hard to come back from a bad injury before, so it is really disappointing for him,' said McEntee.
