Mooney best in Kildalkey road race

Kildalkey became a Theatre of Dreams on Sunday morning for approximately 200 runners who turned up for the Fr Murphy AC 10k Road Road.

The race was won by Peter Mooney from the Enfield area who is unattached to any club. He was followed home Dunboyne AC's Rory Kavanagh who, because he is affiliated to a registered Meath club won the Meath 10k Championship title.

Kavanagh's time was 33.51 with Sean Murphy of Trim AC second in the Meath Championship ranking with 34.37 while Terry Brady (Dunshaughlin) was third with 36.06.

The first female runner home attached to a Meath club was Andrea McGuinness of Bohermeen AC who completed the course in a time of 41.04 with Mary Watters (Navan AC) second and Heather Carty (Trim) third.

The overall women's race was claimed by Leona O'Reilly who is also unattached to a club.

The road race has been staged since the early 1970s and since about the early 1980s it has has been hosted by Fr Murphy AC, originally in Athboy and in more recent times in Kidalkey.

Runners were out in the village warming up from early Sunday morning before setting out on a course that was made more challenging by a stiff breeze.
