Meath v Down to mark Kilmainham 50th anniversary on Sunday 30th April

Kilmainham GAA club will mark the official opening of the club's pitch on Sunday 30th April with an attractive senior football challenge game
between meath and Down at 6pm.

The official opening coincides with the 50th anniversary of the club that was established in 1967 to provide football for a small close-knit community around a two-mile stretch of the old N3 between Navan and Kells.

'Despite often been described as the smallest club in Meath, Kilmainham GFC has defied the odds to not just survive, but to thrive during this period,' commented Kilmainham official Louise Farrelly.

'In addition to our success on the pitch and having produced a number of county players, one of our most notable achievements has been the
development of an impressive pitch and facilities for future generations to enjoy.

'For the first 34 years of our existence we had nowhere to call home, training took place in local farmers' fields and all of our games were played away.

'However, in 2001 this changed with the purchase of a piece of land in the heart of our small community.

'Over the past 16 years our club has raised and invested in excess of €600,000 in the development of our grounds, which include the pitch, our impressive clubhouse, walking track, access road, car park and entrance gates.

'This could not have been achieved without the support of the people of Kells and Meath,' she concluded.
