Carnegie Hall debut for Dunboyne singer
Rebecca Rodgers from Dunboyne makes her international debut on Friday night within the hallowed halls of Carnegie Hall. She honed her craft at The Royal Irish Academy of Music and later was awarded a Masters from Trinity College Dublin in Music Performance.
Northern Ireland Opera granted this young lady a place in their Young Artist Programme in 2015 and more recently she has been working with internationally renowned singer, Kathryn Harries in London.
But this is not the first time for Rebecca to tread the boards in New York City as she was a solo performer in The Julliard/RIAM song project 'Ten Thousand Miles Away' devised by the Scottish Pianist Iain Burnside. This Programme brought together the best talent from one of the leading conservatoires in the United States and Ireland.
Currently across the island of Ireland there are just five conservatoires for young opera singers to develop their skills necessary for the international stage. With only three modestly sized opera houses, Ireland compels its Operatic talent to seek their fame abroad.
Rebecca has already received media attention with her recent performance in the title role of Suor Angelica at the Peacock Theatre, Dublin. “Rebecca Rodgers was outstanding as a really believeable Angelica” said Opera Magazine.
The Belfast Telegraph had this to say about her: “Rebecca Rodgers displayed an impressively fiery temperament and a voice already rich and powerful” in her performance of Haydn’s Concerto Scena di Berenice.
And so America beckons and yet we have barely seen what this young soprano has to offer. Perhaps on her return from New York, Ireland can expect to see much more of her wonderful voice before we lose her to other stages.
