Trim set to host County Fleadh
Trim hosts Fleadh Na Mí 2017 this coming weekend, when the eagerly awaited event on the traditional music calendar takes place in Scoil Mhuire and other venues throughout the historic town.
Fleadh Na Mí is a wonderful opportunity to see and hear Meath's finest young (and not so young) traditional musicians, dancers and singers. The event will be officially launched by Nobber woman, Ann Finnegan, Uachtaráin Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, on Thursday 18th May at Jack Quinn’s Public House, Scurlogston, with the opening address being delivered by Dr Antóin Mac Gabhann, holder of Fleadh Na hÉireann Gradam Speisialta and who recently featured on the TG4 programme, 'Sé mo Laoch'.
Friday night, 19th May features the dancing competitions at the Diocesan Hall in Trim to include set dancing, céilí and sean-nós dancing, followed by a public ceilí in the hall with music by the Trim Comhaltas Naomh Padraig Céilí Band, winners of the All-Ireland three in a row band competition.
Friday also sees a Trim Singers Circle Night at Jack Quinn’s, Teach Scurlóg, while on Sunday Scoil Mhuire is the venue for competitions in instrumental and vocal solos, duets, trios, groups, céilí bands and grupa cheoil. Fleadh Na Mí 2017 in Trim has received wonderful support from the local community and business people of Trim and County Meath and it promises to be an entertaining weekend of ceol agus craic for all the family.
