Sligo athlete edges out Meath runner at Clonee 10k

There was a timely boost for Sligo form in the Royal County last night when Emmett Dunleavy (Sligo AC) and Peter Somba (Dunboyne) fought out the finish of the Dunboyne AC-promoted Clonee 10k road race in wet conditions with the start and finish of the race close to Facebook HQ in Clonee.

The two athletes were battling for supremacy throughout and in recent races Somba has always had the final kick.

However, on this occasion Sligo man Dunleavy accelerated 200m from the finish with an all out sprint to the line after a great contest.

 The ladies winner was Teresa Doherty of Finn Valley AC ahead of Sinead Tangney (Sportsworld) and Claire Ni Fhaircheallaigh (Dunboyne).

All the athletes were treated to refreshments and fantastic pizzas from race sponsor Domino's Pizzas.
