Late points earn draws in SFC
Niall Murphy's stunning point in the sixth minute of injury-time rescued a 1-11 each draw for Dunshaughlin from their SFC second round encounter with Na Fianna at Summerhill this evening.
However, despite snatching the draw with the last kick of the game, Dunshaughlin will view this result as a point dropped rather than one gained as they led by three in the 58th minute and looked on course for their first win of the campaign.
With time running out and trailing 0-10 to 1-10 Na Fianna threw everything they had forward and the equaliser came from a polished approach with Ethan Devine showing enormous strength and commitment to drive through the heart of the Dunshaughlin rearguard and blast a brilliant goal.
Three minutes later Devine looked to have stolen it for Na Fianna when he converted a '45', but in injury-time both sides lost players to black cards and that extended the match with Murphy showing great composure to fire over from 45 metres to earn a draw.
A late point from Thomas O'Reilly also earned a draw for Wolfe Tones this afternoon in a sensational encounter against Donaghmore/Ashbourne who appeared to have the game won midway through the second-half, but were unable to hold on to a six-point lead at the three-quarter stage.
Stephen Corrigan's goal a minute from time gave the Tones a major boost and it finished Tones 2-12, Donaghmore / Ashbourne 1-15.
