Army to assist at water stations

Army personnel are to assist with water stations tomorrow as Meath County Council, with Irish Water, has deployed all available resources including Fire and Emergency Service, Civil Defence, outdoor staff, water and wastewater caretakers, drivers, engineering and technical staff and administrative staff in order to respond to the current water outages in east and southeast Meath. 

Additional resources have been requested by the council from Irish Water in terms of relief personnel, tankers, equipment, water bottles and consumables.

Water storage units at designated stations continue to be replenished on an ongoing basis throughout affected areas.

Meanwhile, Irish water says an alternative water supply has been provided to customers in Southern Ashbourne by laying a 100 metre pipe to connect a water supply in Fingal to Southern Ashbourne. The temporary connection has been connected at Coolquay. The network from Fingal was also reconfigured to provide a mains supply to Kilbride. Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda is continuing to be prioritised during this event to maintain supply to the hospital and supply is also being maintained to the commercial centre in Drogheda town. Customers may experience reduced water pressure from these reconfigured water supplies. Irish Water has appealed to customers to conserve water as much as possible in these areas.
