McDonogh lands day two Galway feature
Willie Mullins took the second big flat handicap after his success yesterday and Meath jockey Declan McDonogh was a key component of the success in the big mile handicap on day two of the Galway Festival.
The Moynalty man took the feature race on the card this evening in the  €120,000 Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap with Riven Light.
The closing stages of the race were fairly congested with McDonogh getting through a gap although there was stewards enquiry called after the horses flashed past the post.
“In my opinion the gaps were there, the outside horses were pushing in a little bit and there was plenty of room for me to go,†commented McDonogh in a post-race interview.
Just like yesterday, Barry Geraghty was on the mark again in the opening race  for JP McManus and Joseph O'Brien on board  Housesofparliament in a novice hurdle while Knockmaole Boy took the concluding handicap for trainer Gordon Elliott with Leigh Roche on board.
The second day of seven featured another big crowd and the Tote returns were up on last year to €932,069 from the 2016 figure of €852,933.
Racing tomorrow starts at 3.15pm with the feature Galway Plate off at 5.35pm.
Meath trainers Noel Meade and Gordon Elliott and jockeys Barry Geraghty and Andrew Lynch will be flying the local flag.
