Navan roadworks causing chaos for motorists

Traffic diversion and road works are causing chaos around Navan with drivers reporting lengthy tailbacks into all parts of the town. Reconfiguration of the existing Railway Street Roundabout and provision of a pedestrian crossing on Circular Road, Navan have led to significant delays for motorists in the town.

Meath County Council today issued a statement to advise that works are continuing on the upgrade of the roundabout at Railway Street in Navan. The works include footpath works, traffic calming measures and pedestrian crossing facilities.

'It is anticipated there will be significant traffic delays during these works. Alternative diversion routes will be sign posted and temporary traffic management will be in operation for the duration of the works. Meath County Council appreciates your co-operation and apologies for any inconvenience.'

Diversions are also in place at Kennedy Road with no access from Trimgate Street, this is causing increased volumes of traffic onto Watergate Street and Ludlow Street.

The Council didn't state a finish date for the upgrade works.

Motorists responded to Meath County Council's Facebook page and were far from impressed. Bernd Webber wrote: 'If you want traffic calming then get the heavy traffic out of the town, 95% of these use the town as a shortcut. Then get the oversized Bus Eireann buses out of Canon Row, the road is far too narrow for them. And then start with an intelligent traffic management and not with pedestrian crossings and footpaths that nobody uses. If you don't get this sorted then you should step aside and let people do who know what they do. This will cost jobs and you as a council are responsible for each lost job as people go shopping outside Navan. You can be sure, we will bring that back into people's minds before the next local election.'

Michael 'PhoneDoctor' Gibson commented: 'Your traffic management plan is clearly not working and is adversely impacting on local business - do you have a response please? When will the disruption end?

Have you been adversely affected by the roadworks, do let us know.
