100 events cross county for Heritage Week

Ramble through the Porch Fields, take part in a community archaeology dig and enjoy the Salmon of Knowledge Festival in Trim, have fun at a children's activity afternoon in Moynalty, learn about Ireland's trees, the Boyne Currach and Francis Ledwidge, experience living history displays at the Battle of the Boyne Site or free admission and tours of OPW sites.  Connect with nature in Girley Bog, Bohermeen Bog, Julianstown Village Garden, Loughcrew, Tara, Dunsany and on a biodiversity walk around Ballivor. These are just some of the activities you can engage in during Heritage Week in Meath.

 

National Heritage Week 2017 will take place from Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th August, more people can learn about and enjoy Ireland's nature. From archaeology to architecture, folklore to placenames, Irish culture is deeply rooted in nature. 

Numerous organisations, local groups and individuals will be hosting events that celebrate the rich heritage of County Meath. As part of national Wild Child Day on Wednesday 23rd August the OPW will host a children's nature activity day on the Hill of Tara. Sunday 27th August is Water Heritage Day and Ashbourne Tidy Towns and Broadmeadow River Project, in partnership with the local authority water and communities office, will have a family educational fun day at Deerpark, Ashbourne. 

With nearly 100 events taking place throughout the county including walks, talks, exhibitions, family fun days and living history displays there is literally something for everyone.  Most of these events are free and many are suitable for children.
