Trim Salmon of Knowledge Festival on Sunday
The inaugural Salmon of Knowledge Festival, a free family fun day takes place in the castle grounds this Sunday 27th August, to coincide with the start of the Race Around Ireland.
Spokesman for the festival, Michael Hughes said: 'This is a first of a kind free, family fun day, put together by Trim Tourism Network, sponsored by local businesses and representatives. It is set against the magnificent backdrop of Trim Castle and will showcase cultural, historical and sporting activities both local and throughout the Boyne valley. It promises to be a great day with a packed programme of events and activities including the Boyne Adventure Race using the River Boyne through Trim.
'With traditional music and dance, headline acts including Aslan's Christy Dignam & Joe Jewell, Don Baker, Rob Strong, Kern and many more, drama performances, stalls from Trim and Boyne Valley craftspeople, lots of children's entertainment and activities including traditional races like sack races, egg & spoon, 3 legged, and entertainment throughout the day, we look forward to showing off our vibrant town and all it has to offer to an international audience,' said Mr Hughes.
The festival itself takes place in the castle grounds from 11am and until around 6.30pm. The programme includes the celebration of the start of the 9th annual Race Around Ireland, stories and songs from the banks of the Boyne by Trim Drama Society and Trim Musical Society, a production and re-enactment of the catching of the Salmon of Knowledge, the Salmon of Knowledge Experience by chef Gerry Meade and craft stalls from Trim and the Boyne Valley. The winner of the Boyne Goddess title, which takes place in Bakers Loft tonight at 8.30pm will be crowned the day of the festival.
