Keane edge at Laytown

There was plenty of local interest at the 150th Laytown races on the strand this evening where trainers Ger Lyons and Gerry Keane were on the mark at the annual outing on the short Meath coastline.

The Gerry Keane-trained Red All Star showed a liking for the sand when winning the second race on the card to the delight of many of the spectators who thronged the venue to watch the action against a background of the Irish Sea.

Challenging for the flat jockeys' title, Colin Keane, son of the trainer was on board and the Trim rider completed a quick double in the next race when he was on board the Lyons-trained Silk Cravat, the 13/8 favourite for the seven-furlong maiden event.

Colin Keane was edged into second place in the opening race on board the Tom McCourt-trained My Good Brother. Keane is now on 65 winners for the season, three ahead of the champion jockey Pat Smullen.

Ger Lyons is in second place in the trainers' table behind Aidan O'Brien.
