O'Mahonys win JHC title

Navan O'Mahonys won the JHC title at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon with a 2-13 to 1-11 victory over Trim in an exciting contest. Niall Fowler's late goal was the crucial score for O'Mahonys.

Aaron Winters had a point on the board for Trim inside 11 seconds, but O'Mahonys were level through Conor Fitzpatrick before the first minute had elapsed.

Fitzpatrick added another brace of first-quarter points with Niall Fowler and Ciaran McGuinness also on the mark for the Navan men, but Trim were ahead at that stage from a crucial Garreth Griffin goal after Joey Toole converted two frees.

John Foley's pointed free drew the sides level in the 18thminute, but Toole countered from a free before O'Mahonys hit a rich vein of form on the scoreboard.

Foley converted a 22nd minute penalty awarded after Patrick Leahy was impeded and then sent over a '65' and a 70-metre free, but Toole reduced the deficit from anothet brace of frees.

That all combined to give O'Mahonys a 1-8 to 1-6 interval advantage.

Andrew Snow extended O'Mahonys lead soon after the resumption, but Trim replied and were on level terms by the 40th minute through Winters (two) and Toole with his first point from play.

 

Foley and Stephen Doyle for Trim traded points as the deadlock remained before Fitzpatrick sent over a fine point to give O'Mashonys a 1-11 to 1-10 third-quarter advantage.

Toole won and converted a free for parity with eight minutes remaining, but Foley countered at the other end and in the final minute of normal time Fowler rifled to the net after Donal Hogan provided the pass.

Foley completed the victory with a late pointed free.
