Golfers told to keep an eagle eye out for brazen birdies in Kells

Golfers in Kells in search of birdies and eagles are being left in a flap by cunning crows!  
Teed off golfers at Headfort GC have spotted the crook rooks swooping on their unattended golf bags to pinch chocolate treats and sandwiches.
 The club decided to put up signs near tee boxes and greens warning golfers to remain vigilant after members reported the flying bandits beaking and entering.
Committee member Donagh Russell explained that  most members now know not to leave their bags half zipped but visitors were being caught out and one of the girls in the clubhouse was fed up of people complaining that their treats had been taken so she put up the signs.

“These crows are masters at opening zips on golf bags. They can empty all the little goodies very smartly. There are about half a dozen around the clubhouse watching out for people parking their bags and trolleys.
“When people stop at the ninth green, they are watching in the wings, watching. While someone is putting, they will swoop and empty their bag. You need to have it firmly zipped. If it’s half zipped, they’ll get a grip. You could have a Yorkie in the bag and next they are gone flying off with it.”
Donagh told how one day he was eating a sandwich coming up to the ninth hole. “I said I better zip the pocket up properly and made sure to. I went to the green and the crows flew directly over to the pocket where the sandwich was. They knew which one to go for though they didn’t succeed that time.”
