Trim's Una in Junior Eurovision semis
Ten-year-old Una Mitchell from Trim has made it to the live semi-finals of the Junior Eurovision competition on TG4 and will perform on Sunday night's show on TG4 at 8pm.
Una is a fifth class pupil at Gaelscoil na Bóinne in Trim and her only performance experience up to this was school talent shows and concerts. Her proud mum Clodagh told how she attends guitar lessons with Brian Grant of the Royal County School of Music in Trim and was singing along to one of the tunes she was learning at home and she recorded her for her grandad who plays traditional music.
She also sent it to Brian and when he and his wife Kim Jackson, who represented Ireland in the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest, saw it, they were hugely impressed by Una's voice and Kim suggested that he should enter the junior Eurovision competition.
Una was one of 600 children who auditioned and one of just 60 who made it to the second round. She was thrilled to make it to the last 32 to the televised live finals with eight acts performing in each of the four semi-finals. The competition is open to children aged nine to 14 and Una was the youngest child to get through to the semi-finals. The winner will represent Ireland in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Georgia.
