Local hero taken aback at reaction to his good deed
A good deed by a young Ardee man has become a viral sensation as video footage of his early morning kindness has gone round the world.
Eimhin Keenan from Ardee is a reluctant hero, who doesn't really want all the media attention he has been getting.
He is the young man who was seen on CCTV stopping to clean up the mess caused by vandals outside Kearneys shop in Ardee.
He has been hailed as a local hero but is “shocked” by the reception by the reaction to this good deed.
“I never thought it would go this far to be honest. I'm fairly shocked at the reception it got because I thought nothing of it at the time,” he said.
The shop owner, Thomas Kearney has hailed him as a local hero and uploaded the video footage to the internet calling for Eimhin to come in and collect a reward.
In the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday, a group of young man ripped out flowers from a window display at Kearney's Shop and flung them round the street.
When the CCTV footage of the initial incident was viewed, Thomas Kearney and his staff also saw a Good Samaritan coming along later who repotted the flowers.
They were so impressed by his kind deed, they put it up on Facebook and asked him to come into the shop to collect a voucher waiting for him there in appreciation.
They had also shared footage of the group of young people who had ripped out the flowers and they have called into the shop to apologise.
CCTV footage of Eimhin jogging past the shop, stopping and putting the flowers back has gone viral including on ABC in the US and it can also be seen below.
Eimhin, a former pupil Ardee Community School studies Occupational Therapy at Trinity College. Eimhin and his brother Conor both play for the Ardee St Mary's senior team.
Mr Kearney said. “You can see him running and then stopping once he sees the mess and he starts cleaning it all up. It’s absolutely fantastic.”
Eimhin had been at a 21st that night and was just coming back to Ardee when he made a quick run to the ATM and came across the plants on the footpath.
“I just thought to myself it'd take a minute to pop them back in,” he said.
