Ronan launches third book in 'Irish' trilogy
Bejaypurs, gobdaw, whippersnapper… While officially in Ireland we may have only two languages, in truth is it is probably closer to three – English, Irish and Irish-English. And it is this third language, Irish-English, that most of us on our fair island now speak.
Irishisms is a hilarious collection of this unique brand of Irish-English and includes the many words we have for describing how average we are; what we really mean when we say sorry; what the correct word to describe your level of insobriety is; the difference between a wagon and a weapon; and when awful is better than savage!
In this, his third book in the ‘Irish-‘ trilogy, Ronan Moore returns with his excellent observations and witty writing style. This is the real book that English Language Students (in Ireland) should be studying!
Ronan Moore from Trim is a secondary-school English teacher in St Patrick's Classical School, Navan, whose writing is thankfully a lot better than his spelling. When not trying to get students to stand on their desks to look at the world in a different light, he is trying to get them off the tables to write down their homework. Irishisms is a follow up to his hugely successful previous books, Irishology and Irishography.
Irishisms will be launched in Antonia’s Bookstore, Navan Gate, Trim, at 6.30 p.m. on Thursday, 9th November.
