Oldcastle's young guns still in hunt for glory
The young guns of Oldcastle Utd produced an excellent display to defeat Borora Juniors 6-0 in the NECSL u-16 Div 1 at Gilson Park last weekend - in what was their last home game of the season.
The victory puts them in line for the title depending on how results go next weekend.
Against Borora it didn't take long for the home side they make an impact as they scored first when Ciaran Healy played the perfect pass for Pearse Sheridan to run onto and finish into the far right corner of the net.
The Blues doubled their lead when a Fergal Gibney cross was met by the alert Conor Hetherton and he fired into the bottom corner.
Hetherton then grabbed his second when he pounced on Darren Connell's cross leaving the Borora 'keeper with no chance - and it stayed 3-0 at the break.
Three soon became four as Fergal Gibney delivered in another corner for Darragh Caffrey to jump skywards and head home. Then enter DJ Monaghan, who has been a dedicated squad member for the team, stroked home the ball following another Gibney corner.
Monaghan brought the house down with his second of the match and Oldcastles sixth as he reacted quickest to Paul Wade's volley which was initially saved by the 'keeper but Monaghan tapped home to the delight of his team mates as they joined him in doing the aeroplane celebration.
Monaghan could have had a hat trick only for the heroics of the opposition goalkeeper but it was a geat day for the club as they signed off for the season at Gilson Park.
"Our last game of the season will be away to Park Celtic Summerhill who will be favorites but our lads will give it everything to bring home some silverware," added manager Brian Griffin.
