Numbers up for Council chair
Meath Co Council chairman Gerry O'Connor had a welcome surprise on Sunday night when his pre-Christmas finances were boosted to the tune of €12,700 due to his ability to select all the right numbers.
The popular Dunshaughlin man hit the jackpot in the Drumree GAA club weekly lotto. In fact it was a good weekend for two GAA club lotto supporters who availed of the online facility promoted by the Drumree and Kilmainhamwood clubs.
Within the space of 24 hours between Sunday night and Monday night, the substantial jackpots in each club were won when the correct combination of numbers were selected.
Cllr O'Connor got the right numbers to win the €12,700 top prize at the Drumree draw which takes place each Sunday night in Gilsenan's.
Some 50 kilometres north of Dunshaughlin and about 24 hours later the lotto genie struck again when Kilmainhamwood officials convened for their weekly draw.
Kilmainhamwood officials move from venue to venue in their locality on a weekly basis and on Monday night the draw was conducted in McKenna's in the north Meath village.
The jackpot of €7,400 was on its way out the door and heading for Dublin after another online player, Denise O'Hara who lives in Drumcondra, found the right formula.
Denise is from Mayo and girlfriend of Kilmainhamwood man Padhraic Rogers who used the "Buy for a Friend" facility to buy her the ticket.
Next week's Kilmainhamwood jackpot is €2,000 with the draw scheduled for Cormeen at 9pm while the Drumree jackpot is a bit more generous at €5,400.
Both clubs increase their jackpot on a weekly basis and once it hits a certain level a reserve jackpot is set up.
The Bective GAA club lotto was won last month by local woman Lily Fagan who landed the top prize of €9,600.
Results of club lotto draws are printed each weeek in the Meath Chronicle A-Z Sportsfile.
