McKeever and Kelly selected for 'Player of the Year' awards

Simonstown Gaels captain Padraig McKeever has been named as the Meath 'Footballer of the Year' while Kiltale's James Kelly claims the 'Hurler of the Year' accolade.  
McKeever led his team to a 2-9 to 0-7 victory over Summerhill in the Meath SFC final in October and to cap a memorable day for him and his club he also received the 'Man-of-the-Match' award. 
McKeever also scored 1-4 in the final as Simonstown marched to their second successive Keegan Cup success. 
Kelly was a significant player for Kiltale as they secured a fourth successive SHC title this year, with his skilful, consistent  displays helping his team gain dominance around midfield. He helped himself to three points in the 1-15 to 1-14 SHC final victory over Kildalkey and also won the 'Man-of-the-Match' award. 
The 'Young Footballer of the Year' is Jordan Morris from the Nobber club while the 'Young Hurler of the Year' is Mikey Mullen from Killyon with both youngsters producing a string of outstanding displays for their respective clubs throughout 2017. 
The 'Club of the Year' is Simonstown Gaels who went close to winning a significant double this year. While they claimed the Keegan Cup with relative comfort they were defeated in the A FL Div 1 final by Wolfe Tones. 
Kilmainham's base was chosen as the  'Ground-of-the-Year' with the club having made significant improvements on the pitch and surrounding area in recent years. 
The 'Public Relations Award' went to the Moynalvey club while Clann na nGael's Bernard Heaney was nominated the 'Referee-of-the-Year.' 
The highly experienced former soccer match official Hugo Whoriskey from the St Patrick's club was named as the 'Most Improved Referee.'
