Laytown Gardai appeal for information following attempted robbery

Gardaí at Laytown are investigating an attempted armed robbery at the Tesco filling station, Donore Road, Drogheda last night.

At 7.52pm a lone male entered the premises brandishing a firearm. He approached the cashier and demanded money from the tills and cigarettes. The security system was immediately activated and the male then left the store empty handed. He was in the service station for just 10 to 20 seconds.

Examination of CCTV footage reveals that the culprit watched the shop from a nearby building and waited until there were no customers present. When he left the filling station, he ran in direction of the IDA Business Park, running across the Donore Road in front of traffic. The culprit was wearing a black balaclava, black jacket, black gloves, navy tracksuit bottoms, black runners and was carrying a black Nike rucksack which had a large white Nike Swoosh logo on the front. He is described as of slim build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches in height, and in his late teens/early twenties.
