Meath Athletics AGM focus
The annual meeting of Meath Athletics Co Board took place at Claremont Stadium, Navan this evening where delegates from 18 affiliated clubs were entitled to attend.
Some 4,375 athletes were registered with 1,910 adults and 2,465 juveniles which represented an increase of 356 on the 2016 numbers.
The real issue facing the clubs was forming a committee for 2018 and following discussions officers were elected.
The position of chairman will be a joint-position with Tommy Boshell (Ratoath) and PJ McGrath (St Andrew's) each taking the role for six months.
Outgoing chairperson Maggie Higgins and outgoing competition secretary Paddy Mangan both stepped down from their positions, the chairperson had completed four years.
Paddy Mangan's report high;ighted a number of issues that he would like to see addressed with the drop out rate amongst young athletes from 12-18 years of age a particular concern.
He also urged the athletes who compete in the masters categories to consider helping young athletes.
He was also heartened by the way the community got together to save Claremont Stadium during 2017.
See nexr week's Chronicle for the details of the full committee.
