Positive development by St Ultan's and Cortown GAA clubs
St Ultan's and Cortown GAA clubs have combined their resources at under-age level and will host a public information meeting this Friday from 7.30pm - 8.30pm.
Officials from both clubs have pledged a serious commitment to this new arrangement with a minimum target of 20 years and covering all teams and ages, from under six to – the newly formed u-20.
This development will see teams playing next year from the current St Cuthbert's club as St Ultan's/Cortown Gaels
In addition to a name change the colours will also change to green and white.
However, teams up to u-10 will continue to wear black and amber for two years, transitioning to the new colours over that time.
Both St Ultans GFC and Cortown GFC took the decision to rebrand in response to the worryingly high levels of drop out rates in the GAA, in particular in the 16-20 age group.
"We hope to put plans in place to encourage all children in the locality to continue playing GAA throughout their teens and then on to adult football," commented St Ultan's PRO Gearóid Rennnicks.
"The contribution of parents, guardians, family members, friends and past players will continue to be essential and all are encouraged to get involved with St Ultans/Cortown Gaels," he added.
Any person with questions is invited to an open evening in Cortown Hall this Friday (15th December) where at least one representative from each club will be present from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
