Great decision by hurling clubs for new format in 2018

There will be a new format for the 2018 Senior Hurling Championship after a proposal submitted by the Boardsmill club was successful at the January meeting of Meath GAA Co Board.

Boardsmill delegate TJ Reilly told delegates that the proposal was agreed by hurling clubs at meetings during 2017.
“We had two meetings last year about the format of the SHC due to the results between some of the stronger and weaker teams and it was agreed that we needed to make some changes,” stated the Boardsmill delegate.
There was unanimous approval for the proposal and the changes will be implemented for the 2018 SHC.
The 2018 SHC will comprise two groups, A and B.
GROUP A

The top two teams in section A will qualify for the semi-finals with the third and fourth placed teams in section A playing the top two teams in section B in two quarter-finals.
The sixth placed team in section A will drop down to Section B to be replaced by the top team in section B.
The bottom team in section B will be relegated to the IHC and will be replaced by the 2018 IHC champions for the 2019 competition.
