Kieron 'The Wolf' Ducie jailed for crash that left model injured
Kieron Ducie was jailed for five months and put off the road for two years today (Thursday) after admitting to dangerous driving in a crash in which model Emily Stewart was hurt.
Ducie (48) of Lamberstown Manor, Kilmessan, Co Meath pleaded guilty at Trim District Court to the driving charge and to driving while uninsured on 24th January 2016.
A hearing at the same court in February last year was told that Ducie had flipped his Toyota Landcruiser jeep near his home after striking a ditch and had only reappeared at the scene of the accident as Gardai were about to leave. The passenger was brought away by ambulance after suffering minor injuries. Sergeant Tom Mahon said Ducie had “gone to ground and was complaining of injuries and was subsequently brought to hospital”.
Emily Stewart was not in court today but a statement of hers was read out in which she said Ducie had driven away from the house in Kilmessan with two children in the car. He was in an angry mood and she asked him to slow down but he told her to shut up and the next thing she knew was that there was a crash.
Garda Diarmuid Shanahan said he had put allegations about the crash to Ducie but he had declined to make any statement.
Inspector Martina Noonan told the court that Ducie had seven previous convictions. In February 2013 Ducie was given a two and a half year suspended jail sentence for procuring another man to possess cocaine for the purpose of sale or supply to another on the night before model Katy French died at his home. He had also been convicted in 2012 of assault causing harm.
Barrister Stephen Montgomery said his instructions were that an animal had crossed his client’s path causing him to crash. However, Judge Cormac Dunne said there was an extraordinary conflict in that Ducie had claimed to be suffering from concussion following the crash yet was able to instruct his barrister that an animal had caused the accident.
Retired Dublin fire officer John Kidd gave character evidence saying that Ducie had helped organise events raising funds for a children’s cancer charity.
The judge imposed fines totalling €3,500, disqualified him for two years and imposed a five-month prison sentence. Before the court session ended Ducie was released on bail pending an appeal.
