Meath kick-start campaign with win over Lilywhites
The trip to Newbridge proved fruitful for Meath as they began their NHL Div 2A campaign with a 1-16 to 0-16 victory over Kildare with Kiltale's Jack Regan helping himself to 1-10.
The visitors enjoyed a fine opening-half when they produced some excellent hurling to lead 1-8 to 0-6 at the interval with Regan getting the goal from a penalty just before the break after Colm O Mealoid was brought down in the Kildare square.
The Lilywhites came back strongly in the second-half helped by the free-taking skills of teenager James Burke to haul themselves on level terms (0-14 to 1-11) with 57 minutes played. However when was needed most Meath were able to find an extra gear and with the help of late points from Sean Quigley, Jack Regan (three) and Neil Weir they pushed on to secure victory.
Meath had a number of impressive performances with James Toher, James Kelly, Damien Healy, Regan, Conneely and Chris Lynch among those to show up well.
