Residents anger over persistent Illegal dumping in site of local schools

ANN CASEY
Angry residents and parents of schoolgoers are disgusted at ongoing dumping in the green area close to Beaufort College, that is in constant use as a shortcut.
The grassland area is used as a shortcut between Kilcarn Court and the Trim Road area and there has been ongoing dumping there over the past year, with massive piles of junk there at the moment.
The mess is close to two schools, Gaelscoil Eanna and the newly built Beaufort College and is beside several housing estates.
Keith O'Dowd who has a child attending the Naonra in Gaelscoil Eanna said it is a disgrace. His mother in law also lives nearby in Woodview.

“It has been going on for a long time. There is a car there for over a year and there is also a fridge and a cooker dumped there.
“It is getting worse and worse. It is becoming a health and safety issue as in the summer it will be crawling with rats,” he warned.
Mr O'Dowd said the areas is beside two schools and is used as a shortcut into town by people in the Kilcarn Estate.

“They have done a great job on the new school for Beaufort College and they don't want this beside them.”
The Mayor of Navan, Cllr Tommy Reilly said illegal dumping was becoming an epidemic around the county.
“I'm calling on the council to clean up that area and I want CCTV there to prevent further dumping.
A spokesperson for Meath County council said dumping there has been ongoing for a number of years, resulting in significant costs being incurred by the Council in removing the rubbish.

“Given the scale of the dumped material, a collaborative approach with the proprietors of local businesses, the school and community groups will be required to address the problem. Discussions have commenced in this regard.
“It is proposed to submit this location for funding under the Anti Dumping Initiative funding scheme for 2018 .”
