Deadline next week for Athboy's Night at the Oscars
For the last two years, a number of Meath Macra na Feirme clubs and Athboy community groups get to let loose their creative side and try their hand at creating their own Hollywood epics in the hopes of winning a cash prize and the coveted Best Film Award at the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival/Meath Macra na Feirme Night At The Oscars.
The 2018 A Night At The Oscars fundraiser will take place from 7.30pm on 3rd March in the Darnley Lodge Hotel, Athboy. Meath Macra and the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival would like to invite Macra clubs and Athboy community groups to enter their homemade blockbusters by the 16 February 2018. Then get ready for a gala night of movie premieres in the Darnley Lodge Hotel where all entries will be screened before a live audience and a panel of judges.
Athboy Fair Green High Nelly Club won last years Best Picture Winners with their tale of “Robin Hood and Tudy Glenn” taking home a cash prize of €250. Previous entries have included mashups of Longwood/Kilyon Macra's “Crimebuster's Taken, Seriously” (a mash-up of the Liam Neeson film Taken and the D'Unbelievable's Crimebuster sketch), Athboy Macra na Feirme's James Bond parody “Blue Jeans Are Forever” and Moynalty Macra's explosive A-Team parody “The B-Team”.
This year's judges will include returning judge Degnan Geraghty, an Athboy based actor who will have been most recently seen in the television series Vikings and award-winning filmmaker and videographer, Shay Casserley. The complete judging panel will be announced in the coming weeks.
Entry is €50. If community groups would require any help producing their films they are asked to contact the event organizers. More information can be found by searching “A Night At The Oscars III” on Facebook, through the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival Facebook or by contacting 087 2154729.
