Pool play-off spots determined
With the IPA pool tournament under way in Donegal, all Meath Pool League Div 1 matches were off this weekend.
However it was a busy weekend in Div 2 as the league play-off spots were decided as Balreask B got the better of Chaser B and Thornes' of Kilmessan hammering Fitzsimons B.
Chaser B welcomed Balreask B and after a very tight singles session it was all square 3-3 with Owen McFadden, Ray Rennicks and Paddy Dunne on the mark for Chaser B, while Danny Shields, Tino Boerez and Shane Dowdall scored for Balreask B.
In the doubles Balreask B showed their class, and won four of the next five doubles frames to win the match.
The pairs of Danny Shields and Shane Dowdall and Tony Gilkeson and David Gilkeson won the four frames for Balreask B, with Bernard Smith and Paddy Dunne getting the only win for the Chaser B
Needing a win to secure a play-off spot Thorne's burst from the traps against Fitzsimons B with Leon Maguire, Willie Donnelly, Robbie McGuire, Barry Noone, Wayne Gilmartin and Caolan Yore all sealing singles wins to open up a 6-0 lead.
Jim O'Brien and Arron O'Brien stopped the rot for Fitzsimons B winning the opening doubles rubber, but the recovery didn't last long as Leon Maguire and Robbie Maguire took victory in the next frame to win the match 7-1 and secure the play-off spot.
Meath Pool Association player Karl O'Donohue won the IPA Premier League event in Donegal.
Three members of the Meath Pool League will be traveling to Malta to represent Ireland in the European Championships from Saturday 17th to Saturday 24th February. Ciaran Wallace from Foxes, Kevin Mynes of the Carnaross Inn and Karl O'Donohue of the Balreask will all be traveling.
