Meath has fastest falling live register in the State
Meath East TD and Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty has confirmed that Meath has the fastest falling live register in the State.
Figures released by the CSO last week show that there has been a 55% drop in the live register since 2012.
In February 2012 there were 11,828 people on the live register in Meath. Five years later, in February 2017, that number had dropped to 6,353. Last month’s figure was down to 5,376. This represents a 15% decline in the live register in one year, and a decline of 6,452.
Minister Doherty said: “Over the last decade, the live register in Meath has dropped by 55%, the sharpest drop in the State. It shows that the economy in our county continues to grow, and the prospects are brighter for our young people.”
The Minister said: “Job creation in Co. Meath is up 4% in the last year. The figures show that there was a net gain of 309 jobs in Meath’s Enterprise Ireland-backed companies in the last year, taking the total from 6,993 to 7,302. Those jobs support other jobs in support services, so there is a virtuous economic circle across the county.”
