Death of former councillor, Shaun Lynch

The death took place at the weekend of former Meath county councillor, Shaun Lynch.
Duleek farmer Mr Lynch was a Fine Gael councillor from 1991 to 2004.
He died peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, on Sunday.
In 2007, Mr Lynch underwent an emergency liver transplant, having been on a waiting list for a couple of years.
Shaun Lynch and his brother Shay took over the running of the farm at Newlanes, Duleek in 1961 following the death of their father, John. Shaun farmed there until 1999. John and Sarah Lynch had bought the farm in the 1950s, after returning from Australia.
A former student of Warrenstown College, Mr Lynch was active in the past pupils' union there.
In 2008, he was honoured by the Friesian Cattle Breeders Association for his outstanding contribution to agriculture.
When he and his wife Liz lost a son, Richard, in a cot death in 1976, they were involved in setting up the Irish Infant Sudden Death Association.
He joined Fine Gael in 1977, impressed by Garret Fitzgerald's leadership.
Elected in the 1991 and 1999 elections, he lost out in 2004 by 36 votes to Dominic Hannigan, who went on to become a Labour TD for Meath East.
In 2006, became vice -chairman of the North East Regional Drugs Task Force , and  continued to work with Meath Partnership, assessing community projects for grants.
He and Liz continued their charity work, with Bóthar, travelling to Uganda, and for the National Liver Transplant Unit at St Vincent's Hospital. He helped his daughters, Ciara and Kathryn, with their Sage and Stone giftware and cafe business, and also was involved in property management projects.
He is survived by Liz and family, Ian, Ciara, Kathryn, and Sarah, his brother Shay, daughter-in-law, Noelle; sons-in-law Wim, Fraser and Mick; grandchildren Millie, Jane, Tess, Meg, Ben, Lucy, Louise and Sam; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, relatives and many friends.
Mr  Lynch is reposing at his home until 8pm on Monday and Tuesday evenings (from 3pm). Funeral Mass is on Wednesday morning at 11am in St Cianan’s Church, Duleek, followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family flowers only; donations if desired to the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland. House private on Wednesday morning.
